Anime Artisans: Upotte!!

Yay for girls that are guns!

Yeah, I know... you are the skeptical type, but c'mon, this was one of the funnest and most novel ideas for a show to come along in years. The anthropomorphizing of guns into cute girls was a genius move, and I for one salute it.

*** sounds a trumpet from the hilltops ***

Anyway, if you are a fan of the show, then you will no-doubt recognize my favorite character, and I might add, my favorite gun type to use in Battlefield 3 Multiplayer... L85A1... isn't she too cute?

Soul Eater Not!

Okay, so it's obviously NOT what you are expecting, and really, it's everything you are probably expecting.

That's vague huh?

Anyway for the fans of popular manga series Soul Eater there is now another entry in the universe of the DWMA, in the form of a comedy prequel/spin-off, called Soul Eater Not!!

The story takes place before the events of the Soul Eater manga, but focus on different characters, with a few appearances from some of your favorites from time to time.

Unlike the actual Soul Eater manga that follows these events, there is not much in the way of action, as this manga is geared around the academy, and the student life there.

I'm actually just getting into this, so I don't have a whole lot to talk about at the moment, but seeing as how, I want to get into the Soul Eater anime soon, it may be worth my while to get some entertaining build-up prior to that series.

I'm sure that if you are a fan of Soul Eater, and you haven't heard of this seri…

Arina Tanemura's New Manga

Well, it's not as if the fans of shojo manga are unfamiliar with her name, but for those of you that are still trying to figure this one out, Arina Tanemura is a mangaka that specializes in two things: making manga for girls, and filling her pages with everything but the kitchen sink.

Granted, I've not read a lot of her stuff, I do have several series on my shelves, and while I'm not overly thrilled about a new series, I'm sure there are a lot of her fans that will be.

The new series, I speak of is Jitsuroku! Fudanjuku Monogatari and is sort of a tribute series, and all boy version of the group Nakano Fujo Sisters. I'm not sure exactly why this is such a cool thing, but hell, if genderbending goes one way, it has to be able to go the other... right?

Anyway, for those that are interested, you can probably catch this September 5th in the Shueisha's Margaret shōjo magazine.

Kamisama Kiss Anime Teaser

If there's one thing that I love about anime and manga, it's shojo romance, and while there have been a crap load of shojo titles out there recently, there haven't been many that have caught my interest like Kamisama Kiss. And the fact that this is now an anime, is just like getting an extra helping of cream gravy on your mashed potatoes. Figuratively of course.

I've been after my wife for months now to begin buying the manga, and now that this is getting the screen treatment, I'm gonna have to just take the initiative, and do it myself. I'm stoked for this, and I hope you are too... if not... well, there's always a mecha show out there somewhere. Or GAINAX.

From Up on Poppy Hill Subbed Trailer

At last we get a little taste of this new Studio Ghibli goodness, with a subtitled trailer, and of course, I'm gonna want to see this one as soon as my grubby hands can get a hold of it.

Never mind the fact that it might be the most boring premise ever, saving a town from a wrecking-ball... I mean, didn't the neighborhood kids do that in the Hey Arnold! Movie?

Anyway, I'm sure son-Miyazaki will do fine this time around, and I look forward to seeing it.

Black Bird Manga Concludes

Holy Lord, it's been a long time since I've personally made a post here, so I guess, I'll flood the place with some mindless news.

Anyway, as if most of you haven't heard, the manga series Black Bird is scheduled to conclude in Japan sometime soon, it isn't clear when, but the general feeling is that it will probably be in the next few chapters.

So all you fans in America that have been following along, can see its finale probably by the end of the year, or the start of the next. At the latest that is.

WO Reviews: Kashimashi: Girl Meets Girl

It has been said that growing up isn't easy, but this was probably said before anyone ever heard of Hazumu Osaragi.

Why do I say that?

Picture this - Hazumu, a young boy in love finally confessing his feelings to the girl that he loves, Yasuna, only for her to turn him down. Very gently, but still turned him down none the less. And rather than bitch and rage on the internet about being “friendzoned”, Hazumu decides to do a little mountain climbing to get his mind off of things, and otherwise get over it.

Pretty good so far you would think. But this is anime remember, things are never that easy.

Cue the crashing alien spaceship that kills poor little Hazumu.

Yup, the hero of this little story gets killed in the first episode. But again this is anime so Hazumu doesn't stay dead for long. These being the friendly alien types, manage to save Hazumu, but at a very odd cost. Our hero is reborn, rebuilt, regenerated—whatever you wanna call it—as a girl, right down to the DNA lev…
