Mangirl! Anime for 2013

So, I'm not exactly sure if this is pronounced, MAN-Girl, or Mon-girl, but regardless, Mangirl! is a new anime about a group of girls that want to make the best manga magazine ever. It's a tad ambitious, but then in the world of anime, what isn't?

The new show, which has some big name staff members behind it, a-la, Kashimashi, K-On, Shin Koihime Muso, Toradora! and Maria Holic Alive, are just a few.

While the premise seems sort of blase, the series could prove to be possible ten on the kawaii factor. So I'll be giving this one a look-see.

Hyakka Ryoran Samurai Bride Trailer

Well, it looks like the girls of Hyakka Ryoran Samurai ... er Girls, are getting the new second season kicked off with a bang, as the two and a half minute long promo clip shows you.

The new season is scheduled to broadcast in Japan, April of next year, and aside from some inconsequential staffing here or there, everyone from the first season has returned to the second.

I'm excited why? Because, news girls, new swords, new moves, less clothes, more ink blotches till the bluray.

Pre-Doomsday, xxxHolic, Arata and more

Well, this holiday season certainly has been a busy one. I'd love to get into all that I've been doing, but that would probably bore you, and just sound like an endless string of excuses for not posting.

But, aside from all that, there has been some cool things that have come up in the world of anime news and such, and after combing over the nets, I found some interesting things that just beg to be mentioned.

Before we get into all that though, I have to say, that since tomorrow is the dreaded doomsday, that it's been nice knowing you all, and hopefully you've done more productive things with your remaining few days or hours on earth. Unlike me, who has spent every waking moment watching old movies on Bluray, and writing fan-fiction, while harassing my friends with annoying text messages.

If you don't know how to spend your last day on earth, then might I recommend a nice cup of coffee, and smooth cigarette. It's not like it'll really matter about the lung cancer thing now, right? So get your coffee, and smoke, and go find a book about something you've never heard of before, and read it. Learn something new about the universe, before it ironically decides to wipe you from it's memory, like a bad stain on a new jacket.

If you absolutely insist on spending your final moments doing something nerdish and otaku oriented, then might I suggest finding the worst anime in your collection, and watching it. make yourself really aggravated and annoyed, and down-right hostile. Then turn and focus that rage on the impending apocalypse. Let that world-ending comet, or volcano, or mysterious as-yet un-heard-of world killer know that you are very upset, and then give it a piece of your mind; remembering to use big nerdy words and phrases, like "By the power of Grayskull", and "Honey Badger".

If however, you're lackadaisical or too carefree to care about tomorrow's end, then you can just do the usual, and watch anime, read manga, or check out this stuff below in the link.

Anime Art: Christmas Kiki

Since the Christmas season is well under way, I'd thought it was about time that I started spreading the holiday cheer a little; and I can't think of a more adorable, and awesome picture to start with.

So to all you folks that follow, read, and subscribe, I hope you have a great holiday.

If you don't know who's in the picture, I'm gonna put you in the corner for a week, and then make you marathon every Ghibli film ever!

Nekomonogatari and Samurai Girls Season 2

According to some buzz that has been going around, Samurai Girls is finally getting its sequel. Though I was split fifty-fifty on whether it warranted one in the first place, seeing as how much of the main plot was resolved in the first season, even if it was only more or less tied up in the last couple of episodes.

The new season, which is to be called, Hyakka Ryoran Samurai Bride...

Well, that sort of sounds like a bit of a spoiler, doesn't it?

No worries though, I'll watch it anyway, because I'm refined like that.

Another bit of excitement, which has my sack all quivery and shit, is the release date for Nekomonogatari the end of the month. December 31st to be exact... unless they've changed something.

Anyway, I liked Bakemonogatari, and I loved Nisemonogatari, so I'm all but foaming at the mouth over another installment.

So now that I've posted some stuff, I've got to go grab me some lunch, and ponder the unquantifiable aspects of the Otaku Continuum, or just douse myself down with some Sumomomo Momomo... either way the results are the same.

New xxxHolic, More Fate...

Maybe it's just me, but as I was browsing the internet last night and this morning, all I seemed to see was a mash-up of partially interesting things, and of those the only things that really stood out were either things that had to do with things I'd never get, or things that were only interesting because they were annoying.

I took annoying, because it's been a while since I've had a rant on here about things that annoy me, but since I'm clearly annoyed, I'll start with the first thing on the list, which is news of the new xxxHolic manga continuation, or whatever it's going to be when CLAMP gets through with it.

I'm not as annoyed by the news today as I was last night, when I was reading fellow blogger AstroNerdBoy's thoughts on it, but it's still a baffling mess and stir-fry of WTF.

I can't say that the last several of CLAMP's manga have ended with much clarity, and in fact I'll go so far as to say that they have more or less petered out to a mediocre snap, rather than the bang they began with, and honestly xxxHolic isn't exempt from that assessment.

While it was certainly an unprecedented manga series, written in tandem with a sister series manga, it made a lot of mistakes, and it introduced way too many shifts to take the plot cohesion seriously at times.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I have been and always will be a fan of the series, but as they say, hind-sight is always crystal clear, and I'm seeing things now--in light of this new series--that I chose to overlook before for sake of fan appreciation.

A new series, will only either help, or hurt the already established canon, and while I'd love to see Yuko return in some capacity, either as a reincarnated being, or a god-modded come-back straight-up, I have a lot of doubts about this even if i don't get my fan-boy wish.

As for more of things that make us scratch our heads, I'm reading something now about how there is going to be more volumes of the new Fate/Apocrypha series, and yadda yadda blah blah... and you know what, I'm actually sort of burnt out, and up to here (I'm holding my hand above my head, which is why you can't see it) with Fate/Stay Night and all the baggage that has come with that franchise.

I own the series! I watched it! I thought it was okay, and not really anything too spectacular, and aside from Saber, it was just a bunch of fighting that accomplished not much. The main male character was a dip-shit, and with only one real saving grace for the show (Saber), it was a shuffle back to the bottom of the pile after I was done watching it.

Now, I'm not going to go out of my way here, and hammer the toes of all the fans, but I have to groan a lot when a franchise based off of an Adult Game manages to have enough side stories, prequels, sequels and games and manga that the combined word count exceeds The Lord of the Rings.

I'm astonished, and dumbfounded. I fail to see how a show that ended pretty crappy needs to have so much lavished reprisals, and extensions. Seriously, it's like the three things I see or hear about more than anything else, is some new Vocaloid crap, some new Madoka crap, and some new incarnation of Fate/<insert name here>...

I could totally understand driving the series home if it was a little more clear and direct, but it really isn't, it's steeped in complication, teemed with villains, and rife with lunacy, and if it wasn't enough to have a title that makes no sense at all, here's the actual chronology of the franchise, as best I could gather.

In-universe timeline:

Fate/stay night
Fate/hollow ataraxia
Fate/strange fake

Alternate universe (no set timelines):

Fate/tiger colosseum
Fate/unlimited codes
Fate/Extra CCC
Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA☆ILLYA

Parodies (no set timelines):

Carnival Phantasm
Fate/school life

I mean, if that isn't confusion at its finest, I don't know what is. And I'm not just saying this because I want the franchise to end... wait scratch that. I would love for the franchise to end. Just wrap this whole mo-fo up, and let's please put Saber to rest, and be concluded. We can call it Fate/End Night.

I think I would be happy with that.

Media Blasters Drops the Ball ... Again

So I was poking around for some news, and came across something that just makes me shake my head sadly. Yet again, it seems as if Media Blasters is proving their incompetence at maintaining their promises of delivering their anime titles when they say they will, and have issued a list of which titles are being delayed, and or out-right cancelled.

According to several places around the internet, the list of titles is quite large, and in some cases the shows that are being delayed or dropped is enough to have the fans up in arms with pitchforks and torches.

Here's the titles getting delayed, and their new release times.

  • Shamanic Princess: April 2013
  • Ai no Kusabi: April 2013
  • The Space Between: April 2013

Live-action films
  • Bio-Slime: February 2013
  • Darnell Dawkins: Mouth Guitar Legend: February 2013
  • Lady Ninja: February 2013
  • Reflections of Darkness: February 2013
  • The Possession in Japan: March 2013

Possibly Cancelled Releases

  • Fushigi Yugi OVA Collection
  • Kite on Blu-ray
  • Squid Girl, Part 3 (Season 2)
  • Gaogaigar Complete Collection

Live Action
  • Unaware
  • Tokyo Vengeance
  • Ring of Curse
  • Fresh Meat Six Pack
  • Dracula vs. Frankenstein

The worst thing about all of this, is the fact that I and a few people I know are looking forward to several of these titles, and as for myself, I guess Squid Girl - Season 2 will be buried under the rug; assuming these are in fact cancelled.

Maybe the day will come that we will see all of Media Blasters cancelled... just flat cancelled. And by that time, I'll be one of the last ones to say, "Good riddance!"

Detective Conan Movie 17 Teaser

Well, it certainly took long enough, but we finally have the first real look at the new Detective Conan Movie 17: Private Eye in the Distant Sea.

The film is scheduled to open in TOHO theaters in Japan April 20th 2013.
